Material selected in the comparison tool

Granite

The most balanced choice for family kitchens: extremely hard, heat resistant, and well priced within natural stone.

Best for: everyday kitchens, families, rustic and classic styles.

Edge Profiles

Straight / eased, beveled, bullnose, ogee or mitered — the edge changes how the stone catches the light and how it feels under your hand.

Surface Finishes

Polished for shine and depth of color, honed for a soft matte look, or leathered for a texture that hides fingerprints.

Cutouts & Seams

Sinks, cooktops and faucets cut to template, with seams planned around the veining so the pattern flows across your kitchen.

What We Craft

Basic care for your countertop

Granite & quartzite: soap and water daily; seal once a year; use trivets under very hot cookware as a precaution.

Quartz: just soap and water; don't set pots straight off the burner on it — the resin can suffer with extreme heat.

Marble: wipe up wine, lemon or tomato right away (acids can etch it), use coasters, and seal it regularly.

FAQ

Questions everyone asks us

How fast can you install?

Installations are completed 1–3 days after measurements. Once we've measured and templated your space, we fabricate your stone and schedule installation within that window — with clear timelines and no surprises.

Where are you located?

We're at 165 Main St, Monroe, CT 06468, in Monroe, Connecticut. Call us at 929-584-7911 or write to velarisstonework@gmail.com to set up a visit and see real samples.

Which material is best if I cook a lot?

Granite or quartzite. They're the hardest natural stones, handle heat well and stand up to heavy use. If you'd rather have zero maintenance, quartz is also a great choice — just use trivets under very hot pans.

Does marble really stain?

It's more porous and sensitive to acids (lemon, wine, tomato). With regular sealing and wiping spills promptly, it stays beautiful. Many people choose it for bathrooms, where risk is lower, or embrace its natural patina in the kitchen.

What's the difference between quartz and quartzite?

They sound alike but they're not the same: quartz is engineered — ground quartz bound with resins, uniform in color and maintenance-free. Quartzite is 100% natural stone, harder than granite, with veining similar to marble.

Do I need to seal my countertop?

Natural stones (granite, marble and quartzite) do — usually once a year, and it's quick and easy. Quartz never needs it because it isn't porous.

Do you handle installation too?

Yes. We measure, fabricate and install with our own team — including sink and cooktop cutouts, leveling and joint sealing.

How do I get a quote?

Use the form above: it builds a summary with your project and chosen material — copy it and send it to us, or call 929-584-7911. With approximate measurements we can already prepare a first estimate.

Do you also build fireplaces and outdoor kitchens?

Yes. Beyond kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities, we craft fireplace surrounds and hearths, outdoor kitchen counters and grill surrounds in weather-ready stone, kitchen islands, full-height backsplashes and custom pieces in any size.

What areas do you serve?

We're based at 165 Main St in Monroe, Connecticut, and we serve Monroe and the surrounding Connecticut area. Call 929-584-7911 and tell us where your project is — we'll confirm right away.
